In the place of today's Guesthouse ‚Zur Krone‘ And at the place of the adjoining house stood once the first City Hospital, Its origins probably date back to the first millennium. It was primarily used for Care of sick and needy Goar pilgrims. In 1137, it burned down along with the neighboring monastery and parts of the cathedral church – a fate that it shares with countless historical buildings in St. Goar and other cities on the Middle Rhine. The hospital was named ‚Jerusalem Hof‘, and after its reconstruction it was called ‚New Jerusalem‘.
The building of the guesthouse ‚Zur Krone‘ was, like many other historic buildings, at one time plastered; since then, Fachwerk has long been considered outdated. With a renewed focus on historical values, a change of perspective and the uncovering of the historic building’s features took place, which makes the age and history of the historic building more clearly visible.
