ISEK – Integrated Urban Development Concept

In June 2018, the area „City District of Biebernheim with Burg Rheinfels“ was successfully included in the urban development program „Urban Renovation“. The focus of future urban renewal is, on the one hand, strengthening the inner-city functions and preserving and expanding cultural, social and service offerings, and on the other hand, ensuring and further developing it as an attractive living space with contemporary housing options in the high-altitude municipality of the city of St. Goar.

In a letter dated November 28, 2019, the Ministry of the Interior and Sports of Rhineland-Palatinate announced that with the new version of the administrative agreement for urban development, a restructuring of the previous urban development programs will be implemented starting in 2020. The previous programs will be converted into new programs. This means that the previous program „Urban Renovation“ will be transferred to the new program „Growth and Sustainable Renewal – Shaping Livable Neighborhoods“.

The area of investigation „City District Biebernheim with Burg Rheinfels“ includes, in addition to the castle, large parts of the first settlement expansions, as well as the historical town center of Biebernheim and the open spaces in between, which are to serve as the exhibition grounds of the BUGA 2029. The town center, on the other hand, is characterized by the regional-typical building character, which is reflected in the town in the form of many old „Einfirsthöfen“ (first-floor houses), which connect the living and economic parts of the house under a first floor.
