Dear fellow citizens,

the upcoming meeting of the Council of the town of Sankt Goar am March 9, 2026 A veritable cornucopia of presentations and information will be prepared for all interested citizens.

1) Presentation on dredging optimization („reinfusion of the riverbed“) by the Waterways and Shipping Administration
The Waterways and Shipping Administration will present its current plans for the so-called fairway optimization of the Rhine in a slide presentation. The goal of this measure is to make the waterway more reliably usable, especially during low-water phases, and thereby permanently improve the navigability of the Rhine. The planned measures and their effects will be explained transparently and in detail during the meeting.

2) Status of the feasibility study for a kindergarten with an optional community hall in Sankt Goar-Fellen
The architectural firm Becker & Elbert from Koblenz will present the current status of the feasibility study for a new daycare center with an optional community center component in the Fellen district. This concerns, in particular, modern pedagogical space concepts, energy-efficient construction methods, and flexible usage possibilities for the village community. The measure is an important component for ensuring and improving the care services for families in our city, and at the same time it can sustainably strengthen the social life in the district.

3) Reconstruction plans to upgrade the Rhine Valley between the festival square and the Rhine balcony
The concrete reconstruction plans for further enhancing the Rhine Valley are also being presented. Ms. Katharina Häuser from the Planwerk Häuser office, who will now implement the measures in a guiding capacity, will provide a detailed overview of the plans and the development history of this final section of the so-called model town of Sankt Goar. The goal is to further enhance the quality of life along the Rhine, create attractive walking and recreational areas, and significantly improve both the tourist and local use of the area. This will be another important component in strengthening our Rhine Valley.

Therefore, it is already worth coming to the meeting and getting up-to-date information, especially because of these points.

4) Over 4 million euros more for urban development funding for Sankt Goar
In addition, a letter from the Interior Ministry of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, specifically from Minister Michael Ebling, is particularly pleasing: it concerns the program. „Growth and Sustainable Development – Sustainable City“.

In this document, the ministry explicitly acknowledges the significance of the 2029 Federal Horticultural Exhibition as a century-long project for the Upper Middle Rhine Valley World Heritage Site and highlights the important role of the development around the Rheinfels Castle for the quality of life and stay in Sankt Goar. For the planned measures, the state provides funding for the expected costs amounting to 4,603,000 euros in sight.

The prerequisite is the ongoing evaluation of the overall urban development project „Ortsteil Biebernheim with Burg Rheinfels“, including the updating of the cost and financing overview and the coordination with the ADD and the approval authority.

As the mayor of Sankt Goar, I am naturally very pleased with this positive feedback from the state government in Mainz and see this as a great opportunity for Burg Rheinfels to serve as a tourist beacon for the city and the entire region.

The concrete plans for the renovation of Burginnenhof, parking lot, Reusche Park and Anna-Elisabeth-Weg The Office DLA – Die Landschaftsarchitekten aus Wiesbaden will also be presented in detail at the council meeting on March 9, 2026. Therefore, I would be very pleased if as many citizens as possible participate in this meeting to learn first-hand information and get a personal impression of the important future projects of our city.

With kind regards
Falko Hönisch
Mayor of the town of Sankt Goar
