RheinVokal concert on July 13 at 6:30 p.m. in the Stiftskirche St. Goar with Valerie Eickhoff and Vogler-Quartett

A myth of the Greek Antiquity on the banks of the Rhine:

How Ariadne, left alone on the island of Naxos by the hero Theseus, has moved people over the centuries. In 1789, Joseph Haydn wrote an emotional Italian cantata about it, which his students performed with string accompaniment. In the Ariadne at the Rhine Vocal Concert in the Stiftskirche St. Goar, Valerie Eickhoff, SWR Kultur New Talent and a gifted mezzo-soprano, envelops her voice in Mediterranean string harmonies, also in the fantastic evening images of Respighi’s „Tramonto“. Schubert’s D minor quartet „Der Tod und das Mädchen“ rounds off the program in a dramatic way.

Joseph Haydn:

Arianna on Naxos, Cantata for voice alone,

Hob. XXVIb:2

Ottorino Respighi:

Il Tramonto, Poemetto lirico for

Mezzo-soprano and string quartet

after a poem by Shelley

Franz Schubert:

(„The Death and the Girl“)

Valerie Eickhoff, mezzo-soprano
