It was richly endowed with gifts from the Frankish kings and was accordingly well-off. It was connected to the adjacent cathedral church by a gallery, so that the religious could enter the church directly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 1137, the monastery complex and parts of the cathedral church were razed to the ground by the flames; subsequently, reconstruction took place as a chapter house. Unlike the monks, the members, mostly of noble backgrounds, no longer had the duty to preach and provide pastoral care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With the introduction of the Reformation in St. Goar, the choir master\u2019s monastery was gradually dissolved from 1527 onwards, and the building was subsequently used as a school. In 1789, a fire destroyed the complex. The building of the present-day finance office was built in its place in 1790 as a replacement for the old church. <strong>Evangelical school<\/strong> The basements of the building, which is divided into 15 similar segments, are very different and some of them still date back to medieval houses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"750\" height=\"820\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stadt-st-goar.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/kloster-2.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5734\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.stadt-st-goar.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/kloster-2.jpeg 750w, https:\/\/www.stadt-st-goar.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/kloster-2-274x300.jpeg 274w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/figure>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Wo sich heute das Finanzamt befindet, stand einst das aus der Zelle des Heiligen Goar hervorgegangene Kloster, vermutlich im 7.
